ASSP Northeastern Illinois Chapter Scholarship
Award Amount: $1000
Thank you for your interest in the ASSP Northeastern Illinois Chapter Scholarship. This award recognizes and supports NIU students pursuing careers in safety, health, and environmental fields who demonstrate academic achievement, professional involvement, and leadership potential.
Application Checklist
To apply, please submit the following materials as a single packet by May 8th to jaybraffett@yahoo.com:
✔ Completed Scholarship Application Form
✔ Personal Statement (see below for guidance)
✔ An unofficial transcript
✔ 1–3 Letters of Recommendation
Scholarships will be awarded at the May ASSP Northeastern Illinois Chapter meeting.
Personal Statement Guidance
Your personal statement should be one page maximum, single-spaced, 11- or 12-point font, with 1-inch margins, and in your own words. Please include your full name and ASSP Student Member Number at the top of the page. This is your opportunity to:
- Describe why you chose to pursue a career in safety, health, or environmental fields.
- Explain how your involvement in ASSP, NIU, and the community has shaped your interests and goals.
- Discuss what impact receiving this scholarship would have on your academic journey and professional development.
The personal statement is not meant to be a financial disclosure. Instead, it should highlight your passion, experiences, and future aspirations.
Submission Notes
- Please include your ASSP Student Member Number on the application form.
- Letters of recommendation may come from faculty, employers, or mentors familiar with your character, leadership, or academic performance.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
